The Prof. Arye Gartner Memorial Scholarship

The Historical Society of Israel awards an annual scholarship to researchers in Jewish history in memory of Prof. Arye (Lloyd) Gartner. The scholarship is awarded to a student in the field of Jewish history who has completed a Masters degree and is continuing toward a doctoral degree, or to a student pursuing a direct track Ph.D.

To apply:

Any Ph.D. student in Jewish history (up to age 40) from any one of Israel’s universities may apply for this scholarship.

Every applicant must submit four copies of the following: dissertation proposal, a detailed curriculum vitae, B.A. and M.A. record of studies, and at least two letters of recommendation from teachers in the student’s major department. This year applications must be submitted no later than Friday, May 1, 2015.

The Shazar Prize for High School Students
Every year the Historical Society of Israel awards prizes to eleventh and twelfth grade students who have written outstanding final theses in the fields of general history.

Each high school may submit up to five theses for consideration for this prize. The theses must be submitted along with a letter of recommendation from the teacher/thesis advisor and confirmation from the Ministry of Education of the final grade, no later than Tuesday, June 30, 2015.

Submissions should be sent to The Historical Society of Israel, POB 4179, Jerusalem 9104101. All prizes will be awarded at the annual memorial ceremony for Zalman Shazar, z”l, Third President of the State of Israel, in October 2015.

The names of the recipients of this year’s prizes and scholarships will be announced no later than Wednesday, September 30, 2015.

Scholarships for Israeli Scholars of Chinese Studies
