1. General

The Historical Society of Israel (hereinafter: the “Society“, “we“, “us“) respects the privacy of users of its website at www.historical.org.il (hereinafter: the “Site“), and acts in accordance with the Protection of Privacy Law, 5741–1981 and the regulations thereunder, including Amendment 13 to the Law.

This policy explains what personal information we collect about you when you use the Site, how we use it, to whom it may be disclosed, how we protect it, and your rights in relation to it.

Using the Site and providing information through it constitute your agreement to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to it, please refrain from using the Site and from submitting information through it.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide voluntarily

  • Membership registration and purchase – full name, email address, phone number, address, and other details required to manage your membership.
  • Payments – payment details submitted to purchase a membership. Credit card details are submitted to and processed directly by the payment processor Pelecard, and are not stored on the Site’s servers.
  • Contact forms – name, email, phone, and the content of your inquiry.
  • Newsletter sign-up – email address, and in some cases your name.

Providing this information is voluntary and you are under no legal obligation to provide it. However, certain information is essential to complete the action you request. Without it we cannot, for example, complete your membership registration, process a payment, respond to your inquiry, or send you the newsletter.

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you browse the Site, certain technical information is collected automatically, including your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and information about how you use the Site. Some of this information is collected via cookies and similar technologies, as described in Section 11 below.

3. Purposes of Use

We use the information collected for the following purposes:

  • Managing membership in the Historical Society of Israel and providing associated benefits;
  • Processing payments and issuing confirmations and invoices;
  • Communicating with you and responding to inquiries;
  • Sending updates, notices and content via the newsletter, subject to your consent;
  • Operating the Site, improving the service, and tailoring the user experience;
  • Maintaining the security of the Site and preventing misuse;
  • Complying with legal requirements and obligations.

4. Basis for Use and Consent

We use your personal information on the basis of your consent and for the purposes for which it was provided, as well as under authorizations granted by law. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us using the details in Section 13. Withdrawing consent may prevent us from continuing to provide some of the services to you.

5. Disclosure to Third Parties

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may disclose information to third parties only in the following cases:

  • Service providers acting on our behalf, including:
    • Pelecard – for payment clearing and processing;
    • Hosting: Jetserver
    • Cookiebot (Usercentrics) – for managing cookie consent;
    • Third-party services operating via cookies, as detailed in the Cookie Declaration (Google, Meta, YouTube and others).
  • Where required by law, court order, or a request from a competent authority;
  • To protect our rights, the security of users, or the security of the Site;
  • In connection with a transfer or merger of the Society’s activity, subject to the recipient’s undertaking to protect your privacy.

6. Transfer of Information Outside Israel

Some of our service providers, including Mailchimp, store or process information on servers located outside Israel, including in the United States. By providing information and using these services, you consent to the transfer and processing of the information outside Israel, subject to applicable law.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable and accepted measures to secure personal information against unauthorized access, use, or disclosure, in accordance with the Protection of Privacy Law and the data security regulations. Nevertheless, we cannot guarantee absolute protection, and we will not be liable for unauthorized intrusion that occurs despite reasonable measures having been taken.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as it is needed to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected — for example, for the duration of your membership and for related operational, accounting and legal needs — and as required to comply with legal obligations. You may contact us at any time to request the deletion of your information and records from our databases, and we will act in accordance with your rights under the law (see Section 9).

9. Your Rights

Under the Protection of Privacy Law, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access – to review the personal information held about you.
  • Right to rectification – to request correction of information that is inaccurate, incomplete, unclear, or out of date.
  • Right to erasure – to request deletion of your information and records, subject to law.
  • Unsubscribe – to remove yourself from the newsletter at any time using the link in each mailing or by contacting us.

To exercise your rights, please contact us using the details in Section 13. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with the timeframes set by law.

10. Minors

The Site and the services offered through it are intended for adults. If you are under 18, please refrain from submitting personal information without the consent of a parent or guardian.

11. Cookies

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies for its proper operation, usage analysis, content personalization, and marketing purposes. Necessary cookies are required for the Site to function; your consent is required for other cookies (statistics and marketing).
