1. General

Welcome to the website of the Historical Society of Israel (hereinafter: the “Society“) at www.historical.org.il (hereinafter: the “Site“). These Terms govern the use of the Site and the relationship between the Society and its users (hereinafter: the “User” or “you“).

Using the Site, including purchasing a membership through it, constitutes your full agreement to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, please refrain from using the Site.

Headings are for convenience only and shall not be used to interpret these Terms.

2. About the Site and the Society

The Site is operated by the Historical Society of Israel, whose purposes include promoting historical research and making content in the field of history accessible. Through the Site you can, among other things, join the Society as a member and enjoy the associated benefits.

3. Use of the Site

  • The Site may be used for lawful purposes only and in accordance with these Terms.
  • You may not use the Site in any manner that could harm its proper operation, its security, or other users.
  • You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or make commercial use of the Site’s content without the Society’s prior written consent.
  • The Society may block or restrict use of the Site by any user acting in breach of these Terms or the law.

4. Membership

  • Membership registration is carried out through the Site by submitting the required details.
  • You must provide true, accurate and up-to-date details. Providing false details may prevent registration from being completed or lead to its cancellation.
  • Membership and its terms (including membership fees, membership period and renewal) shall be as detailed on the relevant page of the Site at the time of purchase.
  • The benefits associated with membership may change from time to time at the Society’s discretion.

5. Transactions and Payments

  • Payment for membership is made through the Site using the payment processor Pelecard.
  • Prices displayed on the Site are stated in New Israeli Shekels (₪) and include VAT as required by law, unless otherwise stated.
  • Completion of a transaction is subject to approval by the payment processor. Upon approval, a confirmation will be sent to you by email.
  • The Society may update prices and payment terms from time to time. Such updates will not apply to transactions completed before the update.

6. Cancellation and Refunds

Cancellation of a transaction shall be carried out in accordance with the Consumer Protection Law, 5741–1981 and the regulations thereunder. Generally, in a distance-selling transaction the consumer may cancel within 14 days of the date of the transaction or the date of receipt of the transaction details, whichever is later, subject to the exceptions set out in law.

7. Newsletter and Mailings

  • Subscription to the newsletter is made with your consent and allows us to send you updates and content.
  • You may unsubscribe at any time using the link included in each message or by contacting us.
  • Promotional mailings will be sent in accordance with Section 30A of the Communications Law (Telecommunications and Broadcasting), 5742–1982.

8. Intellectual Property

All content on the Site, including texts, images, logo, design, academic publications and any other material, is protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights, and is owned by or lawfully used by the Society. No use may be made of it without the Society’s prior written consent.

9. Liability and Limitation of Liability

  • The Site and its content are provided “as is.” The Society makes efforts to keep the content accurate and up to date but does not warrant this.
  • The Society shall not be liable for any direct or indirect damage arising from use of the Site or reliance on its content, subject to law.
  • The Society is not responsible for malfunctions, disruptions, or availability of the Site, and may suspend or discontinue its operation for maintenance or any other reason.

10. Privacy

Use of the Site is also subject to the Society’s Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of these Terms. We recommend that you review it.

11. Changes to these Terms

The Society may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page and apply from the time of posting. Continued use of the Site after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and the use of the Site shall be governed solely by the laws of the State of Israel. Exclusive jurisdiction over any matter relating to these Terms or the use of the Site is vested in the competent courts of Jerusalem.
