First-person coverage of the Khmelnytsky pogroms and October 7 attacks
By Shalhevet Dotan-ofir
Lecture from the 48th conference of the Israeli Historical Society, on the theme “War, Defeat, and Memory.”
The lecture proposes a comparison between two texts written by individuals who, against their will, witnessed harm and defeat and had to contend with their consequences. In many respects, their writings became important sources in shaping the collective memory of their contemporaries.
In her lecture, Shelahevet Dotan-Ofir combines her academic research with her role in the volunteer organization “Edut 710.”
“Edut 710” is a volunteer organization that leads in Israel and worldwide in listening to and recording testimonies of survivors of the events of October 7, 2023, as well as documenting and making accessible online the events of that day. Website: https://www.edut710.org/.
